12.01.10 — Eric Rohmer:
On January 11, 2010 Director Eric Rohmer one of the giants of French (new wave) Cinema died at age 89. “I most often have been inspired by people who talk for a very simple reason: The situation I know best in life are those in which people talk. Situations in which no one talks are exception. It has nothing to do with literature, but, rather, with reality” – Eric Rohmer: 1920—2010
Ma nuit chez Maud 1969 (My Night At Maud) – This is a highly intelligent film exploring some of the conflicts a moralist is forced to deal with simply on account of his being a moralist. There are some fun moments, but far too few to call this a “comedy.” Nonetheless, a very enjoyable film. And especially enlightening if the viewer has any background in the life and philosophy of Blaise Pascal. (Source IMDB)
